The Sun and The Rain

They aren't coming back. And neither is he.

Spoilers: General S1
Rating: PG
Characters: Luke

Disclaimer: I am not Josh Schwartz. Therefore, they are not mine.
Notes: There's a reason I should always use a beta. Ok, so Luke is a soccer player and I have him playing baseball. Let's assume he does one in the Fall and the other in the Spring, 'k?

Other people used to complain about the California sunshine. They complained about it being too hot. Too bright. Too constant.

Not Luke. He liked it. Liked the feel of the scorching sun on his face as he stood up at home plate, his teammates chanting his name. Liked the feel of the trickle of sweat on his neck after running the bases for yet another home run. Liked waking up every morning to the bright rays of sun streaming in his window.

Now he's more often woken up by the patter of rain. It's too cold for him to work up a sweat, even when running laps. And he's no longer the star of the team, so his times at bat are less frequent and no one chants his name anymore.

He's glad to get this chance at a new beginning. Glad, too, that he and his dad are getting along so well. He just wishes that they didn't have to do it here.

Sometimes, he thinks about going back. To the sun and the surf and the cheers of the crowd. To the beaches and the mall and the school's student lounge. To Marissa and Summer and Anna. To Ryan and Seth. To the OC.

Until he realizes that those things aren't waiting there for him anymore. His OC is gone. The sun may still shine just as brightly, but the people, the ones who made it his, are gone. And they aren't coming back. And neither is he.

~End~
